DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

I still remember standing in my class when I was 6, our teacher wanted everyone to share a thing that we love to do the most. I stood in front of my class and said that I like to stay at a hotel. I could tell then from their faces that no one really got what I meant and at that moment, my teacher explained to that class that it meant that I like to travel. At the time, I thought maybe she was right even though I had rarely traveled when I was younger. It was only when I got older that I was able to understand the true meaning behind that answer and I was able to put it into words. I have come to the realization that the answer represented my longing to run away from home. That moment of realization became the catalyst for the many decisions I have made in my life.

As a kid, the idea of a home was a fragile concept and even though it took me many years to find out that it was not right. As a kid, watching my parents and the dysfunctional relationship that they have, it has affected the person that I have become today. I am doubtful and I find it hard to trust other people. It is because of this, I am still fearful at the thought of starting my own family.

Through this film, I wanted to talk about childhood traumas through the eyes of an 8-year-old girl who is caught in the middle of her parent’s disharmonious relationship.  I want the story to highlight the importance of the kind of environment we built around our children. Children listen and they learn, how we act as parents often shape the kind of person they grow into. Children are the blessings in our lives and they deserve to be in an environment that showers them with love regardless of how tough life gets.
